From a Huge Publishing Project to a Click Away: How AI Is Changing the Way We Share Our Stories

Several years ago, I asked my good friend a simple question:

“Why don't you write and publish your book?”

He gave me an answer that stayed in my mind.

He said publishing a book was a huge project. It required substantial capital to cover many expenses: writing and editing, professional design, printing materials, and ordering a minimum number of books. For many aspiring authors, the dream of publishing a book was not only a creative challenge but also a financial challenge.

At that time, his answer made perfect sense.

Publishing a book traditionally was a serious undertaking. An author needed to find a publisher, convince editors that the book had potential, go through many rounds of editing, design a professional cover, print copies, store inventory, and arrange distribution. Many wonderful stories remained hidden simply because the process seemed too difficult.

But today, the world has changed dramatically.

Technology has opened doors that were once closed.

With digital publishing platforms, a writer can now share a book with readers around the world without printing thousands of copies. A person can write, edit, design, and publish from a laptop or even a smartphone. Artificial intelligence tools can assist with brainstorming ideas, improving writing, translating languages, creating images, and organizing years of memories into meaningful stories.

The biggest change is not only about reducing cost.

It is about giving ordinary people a voice.

A retired grandfather can record his life experiences. A parent can preserve family memories. A traveller can share adventures. A small business owner can tell the story behind a dream. These stories no longer need to wait for approval from traditional publishers.

Recently, I have been working on my own writing journey through my blogs, including  AI Digest 123 and Grandpa Journey Looking back, many blog posts are more than just articles. They are pieces of my life story — observations, experiences, lessons learned, and memories I hope my family and friends will enjoy in the future.

Perhaps this is the beginning of a new kind of publishing.

Not everyone needs to become a famous author. Not every book needs to become a bestseller.

Sometimes, the most valuable book is the one that preserves our own journey and allows future generations to understand who we were, what we experienced, and what we believed.

My friend’s words from years ago reflected the reality of publishing at that time. Today, technology — especially artificial intelligence — has changed the landscape.

The question is no longer:

“Can ordinary people publish a book?”

The question is:

“What story do you want to leave behind?”

The tools are now available. The opportunity is here.

Perhaps everyone has a book inside them. We just need the courage to start writing.

Walking Together with AI: Building a Social Media Icons Bar

 Follow AI123.ca on

This morning, I worked with my AI companion on something that might seem simple—a social media icons bar for my blog. By the end of our conversation, I had a clean, modern row of icons linking to Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, and other platforms.

What surprised me was not just the final result. It was the journey.

I asked questions.

The AI suggested improvements.

I tested the HTML.

Something didn't work.

I asked again.

The AI explained where to place the code and how to fix it.

Step by step, the icons came to life.

When I finally saw the professional-looking social media bar on my blog, I couldn't help smiling. It wasn't simply a piece of HTML anymore. It represented a learning experience.

This is one reason I enjoy working with AI. It is like walking with a knowledgeable companion. I remain the creator, making the decisions and trying things myself. The AI acts as a patient guide, explaining, suggesting, and helping me solve problems along the way.

As a retiree, I find this especially rewarding. Every day brings an opportunity to learn something new. Today's lesson happened to be HTML and web design. Tomorrow it may be image creation, video editing, or another AI tool.

Technology doesn't have to be intimidating. With curiosity and persistence, even someone without a programming background can build useful features and gain confidence.

To my readers and friends visiting AI123.ca, don't be afraid to experiment. Ask questions. Try new ideas. Make mistakes. Learn from them. You may discover, as I did, that the journey is every bit as satisfying as the destination.

Today's social media icons bar is more than just a design improvement.

It is another reminder that learning never retires.

Attraction: Why People Come Back

The recent traffic surge to AI123.ca has ended, and my pageviews have gradually returned to a more normal level.

As I reflected on this experience today, one word came to mind:

Attraction.

When Julie and I choose a restaurant, we don't go back simply because we have eaten there before. We return because the food is delicious, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere makes us feel comfortable. Those qualities attract us again and again.

The same principle applies to a blog.

A visitor may arrive because of a Google search, a shared link, or even pure curiosity. But whether that visitor returns depends on something much deeper.

Is the content useful?

Is it honest?

Does it teach something new?

Does it make the reader feel that their time was well spent?

For bloggers, there is an old saying: "Content is king." I believe that more than ever.

Fancy designs, clever headlines, and temporary traffic spikes may attract attention for a while, but they cannot replace quality content. What keeps readers coming back is trust. Every article is an opportunity to earn that trust.

The recent surge gave AI123.ca many first-time visitors. Some may never return, and that's perfectly normal. But if even a small percentage discovered something valuable and decide to visit again, then the effort of writing every day has been worthwhile.

This experience has changed the way I think about blogging.

Instead of chasing traffic, I want to focus on creating attraction through consistent, useful, and genuine content. If readers find value in what I write, they will return—not because of algorithms, but because they know they will learn something each time they visit.

Traffic numbers rise and fall.

Attraction endures.

So tomorrow, I'll do what I have always done: sit down, learn something new about AI, and write another article.

One post at a time.

One reader at a time.

One step further on this journey.

「内容为王(Content is King)。」

这,就是 AI123.ca 想走的路。

I Tried Five AI Assistants. Here's Why I Keep Coming Back to ChatGPT.

Artificial intelligence is moving so fast that it's almost impossible to keep up.

Like many AI enthusiasts, I don't limit myself to just one AI assistant. Over the past months, I've been using ChatGPT, DeepSeek, Claude, Gemini, and Grok. Each of them has its own strengths, personality, and way of answering questions.

People often ask me, "Which one is the best?"

My answer is simple.

There isn't a single AI that's best at everything.

DeepSeek impressed me with its reasoning and technical capabilities. Claude often writes in a thoughtful and natural style. Gemini integrates well with Google's ecosystem. Grok brings a different personality and keeps improving rapidly.

They are all excellent tools.

Yet, after trying them all, I find myself opening ChatGPT again and again.

Why?

Because it feels less like using a search engine and more like having an AI companion who understands the context of our ongoing conversations.

Whether I'm writing articles for AI123.ca, translating posts into Chinese, brainstorming new ideas, troubleshooting computer problems, analyzing website traffic, or even recording memories for my Grandpa Journey memoir, ChatGPT has become part of my daily routine.

What I appreciate most isn't just the answers.

It's the collaboration.

Sometimes I begin with only a rough idea. Through our conversation, that idea gradually becomes a complete article. Other times I'm puzzled by a technical issue, and together we work through it step by step until it's solved.

That's a very different experience from simply asking a question and getting a one-time answer.

Of course, I still use the other AI assistants.

Each one teaches me something new, and comparing their responses helps me understand how AI is evolving. As someone who writes about artificial intelligence, I believe it's important to stay curious and keep experimenting.

Technology changes quickly.

Today's leader may not be tomorrow's leader.

That's why I continue exploring every major AI platform with an open mind.

But if someone asked me which AI I personally use the most today, my answer would be easy.

ChatGPT.

Not because it's perfect.

But because it has become the AI companion that best fits the way I learn, write, and create.

Perhaps that's the biggest lesson I've learned after trying five different AI assistants.

The best AI isn't necessarily the one with the most features.

It's the one that helps you do your best work.

And that's a choice each of us can make for ourselves.

Have you tried more than one AI assistant? Which one do you use the most, and why? I'd love to hear about your experience in the comments.

ChatGPT。

When 250,000 Pageviews Aren't What They Seem: A Google Analytics Case Study

As a blogger, it's hard not to get excited when you open Google Analytics and see an unbelievable number.

That was exactly what happened to me.

Within a very short period, AI123.ca experienced a dramatic surge in pageviews. The numbers climbed rapidly—first into the tens of thousands, then beyond 250,000. At first glance, it felt like every blogger's dream. Had one of my AI articles gone viral? Had thousands of readers suddenly discovered my website?

Naturally, I was thrilled.

But instead of celebrating too quickly, I decided to investigate.

With the help of my AI companion, I began examining the Google Analytics reports. The data told a very different story.

One statistic stood out immediately. Nearly 90% of all pageviews were recorded on the page "/search", while my homepage received only a handful of visits. Even more surprising, the average engagement time was only about two seconds. My AdSense earnings remained extremely low despite the enormous number of pageviews.

These clues suggested that the traffic was unlikely to be coming from genuine readers. Instead, it appeared that automated systems—such as search engine crawlers, AI crawlers, or other bots—were repeatedly accessing the site's search page.

This was an important lesson.

As bloggers, it's easy to become obsessed with pageview numbers. However, a large traffic spike does not always mean thousands of people are reading your content. The quality of the traffic matters far more than the quantity.

Today, I pay closer attention to questions such as:

  • Are people reading individual articles?

  • How long do they stay?

  • Do they return to the website?

  • Do they share or comment on the content?

  • Are search impressions and clicks increasing over time?

Those are much better indicators of a growing audience.

Interestingly, this experience also reminded me that AI is changing the internet in ways many of us are only beginning to understand. Websites are no longer visited only by human readers. AI systems, search engines, and automated tools are constantly discovering, indexing, and analyzing online content.

For content creators, understanding web analytics has become just as important as writing good articles.

This unexpected traffic surge turned into an educational experience rather than simply a pleasant surprise. It taught me to look beyond the headlines and understand what the data is really saying.

Every unusual event is an opportunity to learn.

As I continue building AI123.ca, I'll keep sharing both the successes and the surprises. Sometimes the most valuable lessons come from asking one simple question:

"What is really happening behind these numbers?"

  • Google

AI Era Digital Safety: My Experience Fighting Fake Security Pop-Ups on My Dell Laptop

In today’s digital world, computers have become an essential part of our daily lives. I use my Dell laptop for many important activities: writing my AI blog AI123.ca, researching artificial intelligence trends, managing my online projects, and staying connected with family and friends.

Recently, I experienced a small but important cybersecurity lesson.

The Sudden Appearance of Many Security Pop-Ups

One day, my Dell laptop suddenly started showing many pop-up messages advising me to install “anti…” security software. The messages appeared urgent and suggested that I needed immediate action.

At first glance, these warnings looked convincing. However, I remembered an important rule:

Do not immediately click on unexpected security warnings.

Many fake security alerts are designed to create fear and pressure users into installing unwanted programs or paying for unnecessary services.

My First Step: Stay Calm and Do Not Click

Instead of clicking the pop-ups, I stopped and investigated.

I did not:

  • Install any unknown antivirus software

  • Enter payment information

  • Follow suspicious instructions

This simple decision prevented the situation from becoming worse.

Finding the Real Cause: Microsoft Edge Notifications

I checked my Microsoft Edge browser settings and discovered that some websites had permission to send notifications.

I removed the unfamiliar notification permissions.

After making this change, the annoying pop-ups disappeared.

This showed me that the problem was most likely not a computer virus, but a browser notification issue.

Checking Installed Applications

To be extra careful, I also reviewed the applications installed on my laptop.

I looked for:

  • Recently installed programs

  • Strange names

  • Applications I did not recognize

Fortunately, I did not find any suspicious new software.

A Simple Security Checklist for Everyone

My experience reminded me that basic digital habits are extremely important.

Here are some simple tips:

1. Be Careful With Urgent Messages

If a message says:

  • “Your computer is infected!”

  • “Install immediately!”

  • “Your security is at risk!”

  • “Call support now!”

Take a moment before reacting.

Real security protection usually does not work through frightening browser pop-ups.

2. Review Browser Permissions Regularly

Modern browsers allow websites to send notifications. This feature is useful, but it can also be abused.

Occasionally check:

  • Notification permissions

  • Browser extensions

  • Installed applications

3. Use Built-In Security Tools

Windows computers already include Microsoft Defender.

Users should regularly:

  • Install Windows updates

  • Run security scans

  • Keep their browsers updated

AI and Digital Literacy Go Hand in Hand

As artificial intelligence becomes more powerful, digital literacy becomes even more important.

AI can help us:

  • Create content

  • Research information

  • Improve productivity

But technology also brings new challenges, including scams, misinformation, and cyber threats.

The solution is not to fear technology.

The solution is to become smarter users.

My Personal Reflection

This small incident reminded me that learning never stops.

Even as a retired grandfather exploring AI, blogging, and digital creation, I continue to learn new skills every day.

Technology changes quickly. The best protection is curiosity, patience, and good digital habits.

In the AI era, staying safe online is part of staying connected with the future.

AI Is Changing the Job Market. Learning AI May Be the Best Way Forward.

Artificial intelligence is no longer a technology of the future. It is already becoming part of our daily lives.

In recent years, many well-known companies have announced layoffs. While each company has its own reasons, AI has become one of the factors that allows some work to be automated or completed with fewer people. Similar changes are taking place around the world, including China, where AI applications are expanding rapidly across many industries.

This reality has raised an important question:

Will AI take away our jobs?

The answer is not a simple yes or no.

AI is replacing some routine and repetitive tasks, but it is also creating new opportunities. Throughout history, technological advances have transformed the way people work. New skills become valuable while others become less relevant. AI is accelerating this process at an unprecedented speed.

One piece of advice has stayed with me. Renowned AI researcher Fei-Fei Li, a Stanford professor and one of the world's leading voices in artificial intelligence, has consistently encouraged people to learn AI. Rather than fearing it, we should understand it and learn how to work with it.

Her message is both practical and hopeful:

Don't compete with AI. Learn to use AI to become more productive, more creative, and more capable.

This advice applies to people of all ages.

Students can use AI to learn more effectively. Professionals can improve their productivity. Entrepreneurs can build new businesses with AI-powered tools. Even retirees can use AI to write, create, translate, organize memories, and continue lifelong learning.

My own journey has convinced me of this. AI has helped me write blog posts, translate articles, organize ideas, and begin preparing my memoir. AI did not replace my experiences—it helped me preserve and share them.

There will certainly be challenges ahead. Some jobs will disappear. Others will be transformed. Society will need to support workers through education, retraining, and lifelong learning.

But one thing is becoming increasingly clear:

Those who understand AI and know how to use it will be better prepared for the future than those who ignore it.

The AI era has arrived. We may not be able to stop the changes it brings, but we can choose how we respond.

Learning AI today may be one of the most valuable investments we can make—for our careers, our families, and our future.

AI Is Not Perfect—But It Is a Journey Worth Taking

When I first started exploring artificial intelligence, I was simply curious. I wanted to know what AI could do and whether it could make life a little easier.

Today, after many months of learning and experimenting, I can honestly say that AI has benefited me in more ways than I expected.

It has helped me write blog posts, organize my thoughts, translate between English and Chinese, generate creative ideas, and learn new technologies that once seemed beyond my reach. As a retiree, AI has also given me a new hobby and a renewed sense of curiosity. Every day feels like an opportunity to discover something new.

That does not mean AI is without problems.

Like many people, I worry about job displacement. As AI becomes more capable, some jobs will change dramatically, and others may disappear altogether. Society will need to help workers adapt through education, retraining, and new opportunities. These are real challenges that cannot be ignored.

At the same time, history shows that every major technological revolution has brought both disruption and progress. The internet, smartphones, and cloud computing all changed the way we live and work. AI is likely to do the same—perhaps on an even larger scale.

Whether we like it or not, AI is moving forward. Governments, businesses, schools, and individuals around the world are investing in it. The question is no longer whether AI will become part of our lives, but how we choose to use it.

My own decision is to keep learning.

I do not expect to become an AI expert. Instead, I hope to remain curious, open-minded, and willing to adapt. If AI can help me become a better writer, a more informed learner, and a more connected grandfather, then it has already made a positive difference in my life.

AI is not perfect.

Neither are we.

But together, we may create a future that is smarter, more productive, and more meaningful—provided we use this technology wisely and responsibly.

The AI journey has only just begun, and I look forward to continuing the adventure.

ChatGPT Makes Me Feel Smarter Every Day

There is a saying that learning never stops. Even after retirement, we can continue to grow. Over the past year, I have discovered something that has completely changed the way I learn, work, and even think. That something is ChatGPT.

Recently, Julie smiled at me and said, "You are getting smarter."

I laughed.

Perhaps she was right.

Not because my IQ suddenly increased, but because I now have a very intelligent companion with me wherever I go.

Years ago, if I wanted to write a blog post, I would pack my laptop, drive to the shopping mall, buy a cup of coffee, find a quiet corner, and begin writing. It was something I enjoyed doing. I felt productive and creative.

Today, everything has changed.

I still go to the mall. I still enjoy my morning coffee. But instead of carrying a laptop, I simply take out my cellphone.

Within seconds, I can begin writing.

If I cannot find the right words, ChatGPT helps me.

If I need to organize my thoughts, ChatGPT helps me.

If I need information, an explanation, or even a translation, ChatGPT is ready immediately.

It feels like having a knowledgeable friend sitting across the table, always willing to help.

What amazes me most is not that ChatGPT gives answers. It is that it helps me think more clearly.

Sometimes I have only a rough idea in my mind. After discussing it with ChatGPT, that idea becomes a complete blog post. Sometimes I encounter a problem with my phone, my bank app, or my computer. Instead of spending hours searching the Internet, I simply ask ChatGPT. Most of the time, I receive a clear explanation within minutes.

Life becomes easier.

Tasks that once seemed difficult now feel manageable.

Instead of feeling frustrated by technology, I feel encouraged to learn something new every day.

Many people worry that AI will replace human thinking.

My experience has been the opposite.

ChatGPT has encouraged me to think more, write more, read more, and stay curious. It has given me the confidence to try new things that I might have avoided in the past.

As a retiree, I never imagined that I would be writing blog posts on my phone, creating articles for AI123.ca, sharing stories on social media, and communicating with readers around the world.

Technology has not made me less active.

It has made me more active.

I still enjoy walking through Hillcrest Mall or Markville Mall with a cup of coffee in my hand. The only difference is that now, inspiration can become a published article before I even finish my coffee.

That is a wonderful feeling.

So, has ChatGPT made me smarter?

Maybe not in the traditional sense.

But it has certainly made me a better learner, a more confident writer, and a happier retiree.

For that, I am truly grateful.

If you have never tried using ChatGPT, I encourage you to give it a chance. You do not need to be a computer expert. Just be curious.

You may discover, as I did, that learning has no age limit—and that a simple conversation with AI can open the door to a whole new world.
