I Tried Five AI Assistants. Here's Why I Keep Coming Back to ChatGPT.

 


Artificial intelligence is moving so fast that it's almost impossible to keep up.

Like many AI enthusiasts, I don't limit myself to just one AI assistant. Over the past months, I've been using ChatGPT, DeepSeek, Claude, Gemini, and Grok. Each of them has its own strengths, personality, and way of answering questions.

People often ask me, "Which one is the best?"

My answer is simple.

There isn't a single AI that's best at everything.

DeepSeek impressed me with its reasoning and technical capabilities. Claude often writes in a thoughtful and natural style. Gemini integrates well with Google's ecosystem. Grok brings a different personality and keeps improving rapidly.

They are all excellent tools.

Yet, after trying them all, I find myself opening ChatGPT again and again.

Why?

Because it feels less like using a search engine and more like having an AI companion who understands the context of our ongoing conversations.

Whether I'm writing articles for AI123.ca, translating posts into Chinese, brainstorming new ideas, troubleshooting computer problems, analyzing website traffic, or even recording memories for my Grandpa Journey memoir, ChatGPT has become part of my daily routine.

What I appreciate most isn't just the answers.

It's the collaboration.

Sometimes I begin with only a rough idea. Through our conversation, that idea gradually becomes a complete article. Other times I'm puzzled by a technical issue, and together we work through it step by step until it's solved.

That's a very different experience from simply asking a question and getting a one-time answer.

Of course, I still use the other AI assistants.

Each one teaches me something new, and comparing their responses helps me understand how AI is evolving. As someone who writes about artificial intelligence, I believe it's important to stay curious and keep experimenting.

Technology changes quickly.

Today's leader may not be tomorrow's leader.

That's why I continue exploring every major AI platform with an open mind.

But if someone asked me which AI I personally use the most today, my answer would be easy.

ChatGPT.

Not because it's perfect.

But because it has become the AI companion that best fits the way I learn, write, and create.

Perhaps that's the biggest lesson I've learned after trying five different AI assistants.

The best AI isn't necessarily the one with the most features.

It's the one that helps you do your best work.

And that's a choice each of us can make for ourselves.

我的答案其实很简单。

DeepSeek 的推理能力和技术表现让我印象深刻;Claude 的文字表达自然流畅;Gemini 与 Google 生态整合得很好;Grok 则拥有独特的风格,而且进步得非常快。

它们都是非常优秀的 AI 工具。

不过,在实际使用之后,我发现自己每天打开最多的,还是 ChatGPT

为什么呢?

因为它给我的感觉,不只是一个回答问题的工具,更像是一位能够理解上下文、陪伴我一起思考的 AI 伙伴。

当然,我仍然会继续使用其他 AI 助手。

AI Era Digital Safety: My Experience Fighting Fake Security Pop-Ups on My Dell Laptop

 In today’s digital world, computers have become an essential part of our daily lives. I use my Dell laptop for many important activities: writing my AI blog AI123.ca, researching artificial intelligence trends, managing my online projects, and staying connected with family and friends.

Recently, I experienced a small but important cybersecurity lesson.



The Sudden Appearance of Many Security Pop-Ups

One day, my Dell laptop suddenly started showing many pop-up messages advising me to install “anti…” security software. The messages appeared urgent and suggested that I needed immediate action.

At first glance, these warnings looked convincing. However, I remembered an important rule:

Do not immediately click on unexpected security warnings.

Many fake security alerts are designed to create fear and pressure users into installing unwanted programs or paying for unnecessary services.

My First Step: Stay Calm and Do Not Click

Instead of clicking the pop-ups, I stopped and investigated.

I did not:

  • Install any unknown antivirus software

  • Enter payment information

  • Follow suspicious instructions

This simple decision prevented the situation from becoming worse.

Finding the Real Cause: Microsoft Edge Notifications

I checked my Microsoft Edge browser settings and discovered that some websites had permission to send notifications.

I removed the unfamiliar notification permissions.

After making this change, the annoying pop-ups disappeared.

This showed me that the problem was most likely not a computer virus, but a browser notification issue.

Checking Installed Applications

To be extra careful, I also reviewed the applications installed on my laptop.

I looked for:

 What surprised me most was realizing how much of our daily lives depend on coding.

Behind every one of these applications are countless lines of code written by programmers.

At first, I assumed this was simply preparation for future technology careers. While that is certainly one reason, there is more to it.

這種感受讓我開始反思。

因為我也有一些朋友,是真正帶著興趣一起學習的。例如一位打乒乓球的朋友,他想開始寫博客,記錄自己的日常書寫與生活。他本身已經每天在寫,只是想用博客這個工具分享出去。在那種情況下,我感覺到的是交流與互相學習,而不是單向的付出。

甚至我們之間也形成了交換:我教他博客,他教我傳統中文書寫。

同樣是「學習與分享」,感受卻完全不同。

之後,我收到孫子 Ayden 的訊息。他收到我們送的 Pokémon 玩具後,竟然說覺得不能白收禮物,想用做早餐等方式“回報”。

這讓我很驚訝,也很溫暖。一個小孩子自然地想到付出與回饋,這種心意很難得。

我們當然告訴他,禮物是因為他在學校和課外活動表現良好,是一種鼓勵。不過,如果他願意做早餐,我們也會非常開心。

把這三段小故事放在一起,我忽然覺得:

學習最有意義的時候,不只是知識的傳遞,而是彼此都有參與、有投入的過程。

A Small Conversation About Learning, Expectations, and Gratitude

Today I had a few conversations that stayed in my mind longer than usual. They were not dramatic events, but they quietly revealed how different people think about learning, effort, and appreciation.

One of my blog readers commented on a post about coding. She wrote in Chinese: “你學左之後然後教我們啦!”—meaning, “After you learn it, then teach us.”

At first glance, it sounds friendly and encouraging. But my immediate reaction was more complicated. I felt a bit uneasy, as if the expectation was for me to do the learning work and then simply pass on the results. It gave me a sense of being placed in the role of the one who studies so others can benefit without the same effort.

That feeling made me reflect.

Because I also have other friends who ask me about blogging or AI tools. For example, a ping pong friend recently asked me to help him start a blog. He writes every day and wants to share his handwritten thoughts with others. In that case, I felt something completely different—respect and genuine connection. He is already doing the work of writing; blogging is just a tool to support it. We even exchanged learning: I helped him with blogging, and he offered to teach me traditional Chinese handwriting.

So why did two similar “teaching” requests feel so different?

I think the difference is not in the words, but in the attitude I sense behind them. When someone is already engaged in effort, I feel happy to share and learn together. When someone seems to expect a shortcut, I feel a bit of resistance.

Later the same day, I read a message from my grandson Ayden. He thanked us for a Pokémon gift, but added something unexpected: he felt he could not accept it for free and wanted to “pay us back” by cooking breakfast or something similar.

That message struck me differently again. A young boy naturally thinking about gratitude and giving back. Of course, we told him the gift was simply a reward for his effort and growth, and that we would happily accept breakfast only if he wanted to make it.

Still, what stayed with me was his instinct to balance receiving with contributing.

Looking at these three moments together, I realize something simple but important:

Learning is most meaningful when it is shared between people who are also willing to try, not only to receive. And gratitude feels strongest when it naturally turns into a desire to give something back, even in small ways.

Maybe this is what makes conversations and relationships meaningful at any age—we are not just passing knowledge around, but also noticing effort, intention, and character behind each exchange.

其實,我早已聽過「編程」這個詞。它經常出現在新聞報導、科技文章,以及各種有關未來發展的討論之中。然而,如果有人當時問我:「編程究竟是什麼?」我恐怕很難清楚地回答。

正因如此,我產生了好奇心。

既然我的孫兒孫女要學編程,也許爺爺也應該花點時間了解一下,究竟什麼是編程。

編程到底是什麼?

經過一些閱讀和探索後,我發現編程其實沒有想像中那麼神秘。

簡單來說,編程就是向電腦發出指令。

例如沖泡一杯茶,我們通常會按照以下步驟:

  1. 煮沸開水;

  2. 把茶包放進杯子裡;

  3. 倒入熱水;

  4. 等待幾分鐘;

  5. 取出茶包。

電腦程式其實也是同樣的道理。

程式設計師把一連串步驟寫下來,電腦便會按照這些指令逐步執行。

這些指令便稱為「程式碼」(Code)。

換句話說,編程就是人類與電腦溝通的一種語言。

然後,人工智能出現了

當我進一步了解編程時,發現另一件更有趣的事情。

人工智能(AI)正在改變編程本身。

過去,程式設計師需要親手撰寫幾乎每一行程式碼。

如今,AI 已經能夠根據人們用自然語言描述的需求,自動產生大量程式碼。

例如,只需輸入:

「請建立一個展示我旅遊照片的網站。」

AI 便能幫助生成網站所需的大部分程式碼。

這是一個非常重要的變化。

作為長者,我們有時聽到新的科技名詞,會覺得那是年輕人的世界。

如今,我的看法改變了。

My Grandchildren Are Learning Coding This Summer—So I Decided to Learn What Coding Really Means

Recently, my daughter told me that her son and daughter would be learning coding during their summer vacation.

I had heard the word "coding" many times before. It often appeared in news articles, technology discussions, and conversations about the future. Yet, if someone had asked me to explain exactly what coding was, I would not have been able to give a clear answer.

That conversation sparked my curiosity.

If my grandchildren are learning coding, perhaps it is time for Grandpa to learn a little about it as well.

What Exactly Is Coding?

After some reading and exploration, I discovered that coding is simply the process of giving instructions to a computer.

Think about making a cup of tea.

You follow a series of steps:

  1. Boil water.

  2. Put a tea bag into a cup.

  3. Pour in the hot water.

  4. Wait a few minutes.

  5. Remove the tea bag.

A computer program works in much the same way. Someone writes a series of instructions, and the computer follows them step by step.

Those instructions are called code.

In other words, coding is the language humans use to communicate with computers.

The Hidden World of Code Around Us

What surprised me most was realizing how much of our daily lives depend on coding.

Every day I use:

  • WhatsApp to communicate with friends and family.

  • Google Maps and Waze for navigation.

  • Online banking services.

  • Travel websites.

  • ChatGPT and other AI tools.

Behind every one of these applications are countless lines of code written by programmers.

Most of us never see that code, just as we rarely see the engine inside a car. Yet it powers everything we do.

Why Are Children Learning Coding?

Many schools now introduce coding at an early age.

At first, I assumed this was simply preparation for future technology careers. While that is certainly one reason, there is more to it.

Coding teaches children how to think logically.

When faced with a problem, they learn how to:

  • Break large problems into smaller pieces.

  • Follow a sequence of steps.

  • Test solutions.

  • Fix mistakes.

  • Keep improving their work.

These skills are valuable regardless of what profession they choose later in life.

Coding is not only about computers. It is also about problem-solving.

Coding Has Become Much Easier

When computers first became popular, coding looked intimidating.

Programmers typed complicated commands on black screens filled with mysterious symbols.

Today, many children begin with visual tools that resemble building blocks or LEGO pieces. They can create games, animations, and simple programs by dragging colorful blocks on a screen.

Learning coding has become far more accessible than it was a generation ago.

Then Came Artificial Intelligence

As I explored the topic further, I discovered something even more interesting.

Artificial intelligence is changing coding itself.

In the past, programmers had to write nearly every instruction manually.

Today, AI tools can generate code from simple descriptions written in ordinary language.

A Lesson for Seniors

As seniors, we sometimes hear new technological terms and assume they belong to younger generations.

I used to think coding was something only computer professionals needed to understand.

Now I see it differently.

We do not need to become software engineers. We do not need to write complex computer programs.

But understanding the basics helps us appreciate how modern technology works and why it is shaping our future.

My grandchildren may spend part of their summer learning coding.

Meanwhile, I may spend part of mine learning what coding means.

They will probably learn much faster than I ever could. But that is not the point.

The video was created by Australian-based content creator 澳洲Henry, and what caught my attention immediately was not flashy technology or complicated programming — but the simple and encouraging message:

Ordinary people can still learn AI today, and the opportunity is only beginning.

For many seniors, retirees, and even middle-aged working people, AI can feel intimidating at first. Some people think:

  • “I’m too old to learn.”
  • “Young people are already far ahead.”
  • “Technology changes too fast.”
  • “AI is only for programmers.”

But after watching this video, I felt the exact opposite.

The AI Door Is Still Wide Open

現在很多時候,你真正需要的,只是:

In many ways, AI is becoming a personal tutor available 24 hours a day.

This raises an interesting question:

Will future generations still need traditional tertiary education in the same way as before?

For decades, universities have been viewed as the primary gateway to knowledge, professional careers, and social mobility. But AI may begin shifting education from institution-centered learning to self-directed learning.

Already, we are seeing signs of this transformation:

  • Online certifications and micro-courses
  • Self-taught programmers and entrepreneurs
  • AI-assisted independent learning

在很多方面,AI 正逐漸成為一位二十四小時全天候陪伴的私人導師。

這也帶來了一個值得深思的問題:

未來的人,還會像過去一樣需要傳統的大專或大學教育嗎?

幾十年來,大學一直被視為獲取知識、建立專業事業與提升社會地位的重要途徑。但 AI 的出現,可能正在把教育從「以學校為中心」逐漸轉變成「以自我學習為中心」。

其實,我們已經開始看到這種轉變的跡象:
