Recently, I experimented with the Google Translate button to expand my blog’s reach. By translating posts into Portuguese and Vietnamese and then sharing them on X and Facebook, I noticed a sharp rise in traffic from Brazil and Vietnam—just as planned. I think of this as promotion in width: casting a wider net to reach new audiences.
But reach is only part of the story. To truly grow, a blog also needs promotion in depth—the kind that keeps readers engaged, encourages them to return, and builds loyalty over time.
Promotion in Width (Reach & Exposure)
-
Translating posts into multiple languages.
-
Sharing across platforms like X, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
-
Posting at the right times for different regions.
-
Repurposing content into short social updates or visuals.
Promotion in Depth (Engagement & Loyalty)
-
Content quality: Clear, useful, and authentic writing.
-
Presentation: Organized with headings, bullet points, and visuals for easy reading.
-
Tone: Friendly, approachable, and culturally sensitive.
-
Interaction: Asking questions, encouraging comments, and replying to readers—even in their own language with translation tools.
The Power of Combining Both
Width brings people in. Depth makes them stay.
When you balance both strategies, your blog not only attracts a global audience but also cultivates a loyal community of readers. It’s like planting seeds worldwide (width) and then nurturing the soil where they sprout (depth).
For bloggers, this combination is the most practical and effective way to build sustainable growth.
