My eBook Story: How ChatGPT Became My Writing Companion

Editor’s note (2026): This post reflects on how I used ChatGPT while compiling my eBook. Since then, AI has become an even bigger part of my daily learning and writing.

                                                                Richmond Hill 2020

Today, I’d like to share something close to my heart.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working on a project that is both meaningful and exciting to me — compiling my eBook AI Learning for Seniors. I can honestly say that without the help of ChatGPT, my AI writing companion, this journey would not have been nearly as smooth or enjoyable.

Writing an eBook is no small task. It’s not just about putting words on a page. It involves organizing ideas, polishing language, and making sure everything flows naturally from one chapter to the next. For me, writing in English has always required extra effort. But with ChatGPT by my side, it felt like having a patient and supportive writing partner available 24/7.

Sometimes, I would simply share rough notes or scattered thoughts, and ChatGPT would help turn them into clear, well-structured paragraphs. Other times, it helped me adjust the tone so my writing sounded warmer and more conversational — just like how I speak with you. It even helped me check consistency across chapters, from the glossary to the acknowledgements, making the entire book feel complete and coherent.

What I appreciated most was that ChatGPT never replaced my voice — it strengthened it. The stories, reflections, and lessons are still mine. The AI simply helped me express them more clearly, like a thoughtful friend gently suggesting, “Why not say it this way? It may connect better with your readers.”

Now that the eBook is nearly complete, I look back with gratitude. Not only for the technology itself, but for the experience of working side by side with AI and discovering how it can support seniors in practical and surprising ways.

To me, this project is more than just a book. It’s proof that we can continue learning, creating, and sharing — no matter our age.

Thank you for being part of this journey with me. I look forward to hearing your thoughts when you read it.

Warm regards,

David Au

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Did ChatGPT write the eBook for you?
No. The ideas, stories, and reflections are all mine. ChatGPT helped me organize my thoughts, improve clarity, and polish the language — like a helpful writing assistant, not a replacement.

2. Do I need strong English skills to write with AI?
Not at all. That’s one of the biggest benefits. AI can help refine grammar, tone, and structure, making writing easier and less stressful, especially for non-native English speakers.

3. Is ChatGPT difficult for seniors to use?
No. In fact, it’s very senior-friendly. You simply type or speak your thoughts in natural language, and ChatGPT responds patiently without pressure or judgment.

4. Can AI help with more than writing?
Yes. Besides writing, AI can help with learning new topics, summarizing articles, practicing English, organizing ideas, and even brainstorming blog titles or book outlines.

5. Is it too late to start learning AI at my age?
Absolutely not. This eBook itself is proof that learning and creating can continue at any age. AI is a tool designed to assist us — not to replace us — and seniors can benefit greatly from it.
