What Google Search Is Telling Me About My Blog

 

This morning, I went back and reviewed a conversation I had with my AI companion a few days ago.

It was about something I have been watching quite closely lately: the traffic to my blog, AI123 (ai123.ca).

At first glance, the numbers didn't look particularly exciting.

For the week of August 3–9, 2026, Google Analytics showed:

• Organic Search: 27 sessions

• Average session duration: 12 minutes 35 seconds

• Blogger: 19 sessions

• Average session duration: 6 minutes 14 seconds

Twenty-seven sessions?

That's not a huge number.

But then I looked at the other number.

12 minutes and 35 seconds.

That caught my attention.

Maybe the number of visitors isn't the whole story

I have been watching my blog traffic for quite a while now. Sometimes the numbers can be surprisingly large, and sometimes they fall back down again.

It is easy for a blogger to become excited when seeing thousands of pageviews.

I certainly have done that myself.

But my conversation with ChatGPT made me think about something different.

Perhaps I shouldn't only ask:

"How many people came to my blog?"

I should also ask:

"What did they do after they arrived?"

That is a different way of looking at blogging.

Someone who arrives through Google Search may have been looking for something specific. They type a question or a topic into Google, see a result, and decide to visit my blog.

If that person stays for several minutes, perhaps they are actually reading.

That is much more interesting to me than simply knowing that someone clicked on my site.

Organic Search versus Blogger

The comparison was particularly interesting.

Visitors coming through Blogger averaged 6 minutes and 14 seconds.

Visitors coming through Organic Search averaged 12 minutes and 35 seconds.

In other words, the average Organic Search session was roughly twice as long.

Of course, I have to be careful.

There were only 27 Organic Search sessions in this particular period. That is a small sample, so I don't want to make a big conclusion from one week's data.

But I think it is a signal worth watching.

Maybe Google is slowly finding people who are genuinely interested in some of the things I write about.

And that makes me curious.

What are people searching for?

This is where blogging becomes interesting for me.

I am not a professional SEO expert sitting in an office studying keywords all day.

I'm a grandfather who likes to write.

I write about AI. I write about blogging. I write about my experiments with technology. I write about things that happen in my everyday life.

Sometimes I don't know which story will attract readers.

I simply write about something that catches my attention.

Recently, I have also noticed people searching for subjects such as blogging, Blogger, AI learning, and AI versus AGI.

That tells me something.

People are not necessarily coming to my site only because somebody sent them a link.

Some are actually searching for these subjects.

That is encouraging.

My AI companion gave me something to think about

When I shared the Google Analytics information with ChatGPT, it told me that the Organic Search result might be more meaningful than simply looking at a large pageview number.

I liked that observation.

Not because ChatGPT told me something I wanted to hear, but because it gave me another way to interpret the data.

I used to think of analytics mainly as a scoreboard.

More visitors = good.

Fewer visitors = bad.

Now I'm beginning to see it more like a conversation.

The numbers are telling me something about the people who visit.

Where did they come from?

What did they read?

How long did they stay?

Did they come back?

Did they find me through Google, Blogger, YouTube, Facebook, or somewhere else?

These questions are becoming more interesting to me than simply watching the visitor counter.

I don't want to change everything

There is another piece of advice from my AI companion that I found useful.

It suggested that I shouldn't immediately start changing everything just because I saw one encouraging result.

I agree.

That's probably one of the hardest lessons for a blogger.

You see one number go up and you want to change the whole website.

You see another number go down and you wonder whether something is wrong.

But perhaps the better approach is simply to watch and learn.

For now, I want to see what happens to Organic Search over the next few weeks.

Will those 27 sessions become 40?

Then 60?

Maybe 100?

And will visitors continue to spend several minutes reading?

I don't know.

That's the fun part.

I'm learning alongside my readers

At 80, I didn't expect that I would become so interested in website analytics.

But here I am.

I'm learning about Google Analytics, Blogger, AI, search traffic, engagement, and all kinds of things that were certainly not part of my daily life years ago.

And I have discovered that I don't need to understand everything at once.

I can ask questions.

I can experiment.

I can make mistakes.

I can look at the data.

Then I can ask my AI companion, "What do you think this means?"

And we talk about it.

That's actually one of the things I enjoy most about blogging now.

I'm not simply writing stories.

I'm learning from the people who read them.

And perhaps that is the most interesting part of this whole blogging journey.

The 27 Organic Search sessions from August 3–9 may not look impressive to a big website.

But to me, they represent something much more personal.

They may be 27 small signs that someone, somewhere, searched for something, found a little corner of my website, and decided to stay for a while.

For an old grandfather who simply enjoys writing and sharing what he learns, that's worth paying attention to.

And I'll be watching what happens next.

Google 搜索正在告诉我什么？——一个老爷爷的博客观察

今天早上，我重新看了一遍几天前我和 AI 伙伴的一段对话。

我们谈的是一个我最近一直在关注的话题：我的博客 AI Digest 123（ai123.ca）的流量。

乍一看，数字并不是特别惊人。

2026年8月3日至9日这一周，Google Analytics 显示：

• Organic Search（自然搜索）：27 次会话

• 平均会话时长：12分35秒

• Blogger：19 次会话

• 平均会话时长：6分14秒

27 次会话？

这个数字并不算大。

可是，当我看到另外一个数字时，我停了一下。

12分35秒。

这个数字引起了我的注意。

访问人数，也许不是全部故事

我已经观察自己的博客流量一段时间了。

有时候，数字会突然大幅增加；有时候，又会慢慢回落。

作为一个博客作者，很容易因为看到几千甚至几万的页面浏览量而兴奋。

我当然也不例外。

可是，我和 ChatGPT 的这次对话让我开始思考另外一个问题。

也许我不应该只问：

“有多少人来到我的博客？”

我还应该问：

“他们来到我的博客以后做了什么？”

这是一个完全不同的看法。

如果一个人通过 Google 搜索来到我的博客，很可能是因为他正在寻找某一个具体的问题、主题或者答案。

他在 Google 输入一些文字，看到我的文章，然后决定点进来。

如果这个人来到网站以后停留了十几分钟，也许他真的在阅读。

对我来说，这比单纯知道有人点击进入我的网站更加有意思。

Organic Search 和 Blogger 的比较

最让我感兴趣的，是这两个流量来源之间的比较。

Blogger 带来的访问者，平均会话时间是 6分14秒。

而 Organic Search 带来的访问者，平均会话时间是 12分35秒。

也就是说，在这一个星期的数据中，来自 Google 自然搜索的访问者，平均停留时间大约是 Blogger 访问者的两倍。

当然，我也必须保持冷静。

只有27次 Organic Search 会话，这个样本并不大。

所以，我不会因为一个星期的数据就下很大的结论。

但是，我认为这是一个值得继续观察的信号。

也许 Google 正在慢慢把一些真正对我的文章感兴趣的人带到我的网站。

这让我很好奇。

人们到底在搜索什么？

这也是我觉得写博客越来越有意思的地方。

我不是一名专业的 SEO 专家，也没有每天坐在那里研究关键词。

我是一个喜欢写东西的老爷爷。

我写 AI。

我写博客。

我写自己使用新科技的体验。

我也写日常生活中发生的一些事情。

有时候，我根本不知道哪一篇文章会吸引读者。

我只是因为某件事情引起了我的兴趣，就把它写下来。

最近，我也注意到一些搜索内容，例如：

blogging、Blogger、AI learning、AI vs AGI。

这让我得到一个信息。

人们并不一定只是因为朋友分享了我的链接才来到我的网站。

有些人是真的在 Google 搜索这些主题，然后找到了我的文章。

这让我感到鼓舞。

我的 AI 伙伴让我换了一个角度

当我把 Google Analytics 的数据告诉 ChatGPT 时，它提醒我：

Organic Search 的这个结果，可能比单纯看到一个很大的页面浏览量数字更加值得关注。

我很喜欢这个观点。

不是因为 ChatGPT 告诉了我一个我喜欢听的答案，而是因为它让我换了一个角度来看这些数据。

以前，我很容易把 Analytics 当成一个成绩表。

访问人数增加了——很好。

访问人数减少了——不好。

现在，我开始把 Analytics 看成一种对话。

这些数字正在告诉我一些关于读者的事情。

他们从哪里来？

他们读了什么？

他们停留了多久？

他们有没有回来？

他们是通过 Google、Blogger、YouTube、Facebook，还是其他地方找到我的？

慢慢地，这些问题对我来说，比单纯盯着访问人数更有意思。

我暂时不想改变太多东西

我的 AI 伙伴还给了我一个很实际的建议。

不要因为看到一个令人鼓舞的数字，就马上把整个网站重新改变一遍。

我很认同。

这可能是博客作者最容易犯的错误之一。

看到一个数字上升，就想马上改变网站。

看到另一个数字下降，又开始怀疑是不是哪里出了问题。

可是，也许更好的方法是：

先观察，先学习。

目前，我想继续看看未来几个星期 Organic Search 会发生什么。

27次会不会变成40次？

然后60次？

甚至100次？

而这些访问者是否仍然愿意停留几分钟阅读？

我不知道。

而这恰恰也是最有趣的地方。

我正在和我的读者一起学习

80岁以后，我从来没有想过自己会对网站分析这么感兴趣。

可是现在，我就在这里。

我正在学习 Google Analytics、Blogger、AI、搜索流量、读者参与度，以及很多过去完全不属于我日常生活的东西。

我也发现，我不需要一次把所有东西都弄懂。

我可以问问题。

我可以尝试。

我可以犯错误。

我可以看看数据。

然后问我的 AI 伙伴：

“你觉得这是什么意思？”

我们就这样聊下去。

其实，这正是我现在写博客最喜欢的一部分。

我不只是写故事。

我也在从读者那里学习。

也许，这才是整个博客旅程中最有意思的地方。

对于一个大型网站来说，8月3日至9日的27次 Organic Search 会话可能根本不值得一提。

但是对我来说，这27次访问代表了一些很特别的东西。

也许，在世界的某个地方，有27个人中的一些人，曾经在 Google 搜索某个问题，偶然发现了我的网站，然后决定留下来读一会儿。

对于一个只是喜欢写作、喜欢分享自己所学东西的老爷爷来说，

这已经值得我认真观察了。

所以，我会继续看下去。
