Dinner, Old Friends, and Discovering AI Image Creation

 A Fun Evening at Crown Jewel Fine Dining with ChatGPT Surprises

Last evening, Julie and I joined a dinner gathering with old friends and classmates at 御膳豪庭(Crown Jewel Fine Dining) near Bamburg Circle, at the intersection of Warden and Steeles.

There were nine of us around the table. The atmosphere was lively, relaxed, and full of laughter. As usual, old classmates can quickly pick up conversations even after long periods apart.

The food was excellent and plentiful.

We enjoyed:

• Peking duck
• Soy sauce chicken
• Sweet and sour fish
• Beef with gai lan
• Stir-fried shrimps with egg
• Bean sprouts with mushrooms
• Rice and other side dishes

The dishes arrived one after another, filling the table with color, aroma, and warmth. The soy sauce chicken was tender and flavorful, while the sweet and sour fish had a crispy texture covered with rich sauce. The Peking duck was especially popular at the table.

But beyond the food, one topic unexpectedly became the highlight of the evening — AI.

During our conversations, one friend introduced a new ChatGPT feature: instant AI image creation.

At first, many of us were curious but skeptical.

“Can it really create pictures so quickly?”

Within seconds, we saw it happen live.

I decided to try it myself.

I simply typed a request into ChatGPT:

“A young Chinese girl friend with me.”

Everyone around the table was surprised.

Some laughed. Some leaned closer to look at the screen. Others immediately began thinking about what kind of images they wanted to create themselves.

What impressed me most was not only the speed, but also how easy the process was. No technical knowledge was needed. Just describe what you want in simple language.

This experience reminded me again how AI is quietly entering everyday life.

Not long ago, creating custom images required complicated software and professional skills. Today, ordinary people — including seniors like us — can experiment with AI creativity during a casual dinner gathering with friends.

Learning AI no longer feels distant or intimidating.

Sometimes, learning begins with curiosity, conversation, and a smartphone at the dinner table.

For me, this was more than just trying a new feature.

It was another reminder that no matter our age, we can still explore new technology, learn new skills, and enjoy the excitement of discovery.

And perhaps that is one of the best things about today’s AI era.

在御膳豪庭的一次有趣聚會

昨晚，我和 Julie 與幾位老同學、老朋友在 Warden 與 Steeles 附近 Bamburg Circle 的「御膳豪庭」聚餐。

當晚共有九人出席，氣氛熱鬧輕鬆，笑聲不斷。老同學之間總是特別容易打開話題，即使很久沒見，也能很快聊得投入。

晚餐非常豐富，包括：

• 北京烤鴨
• 豉油雞
• 糖醋魚
• 芥蘭牛肉
• 滑蛋蝦仁
• 蘑菇炒豆芽
• 白飯及其他菜式

一道道菜陸續送上，色香味俱全。豉油雞嫩滑入味，糖醋魚外脆內嫩，北京烤鴨更是大家爭相品嚐的焦點。

不過，當晚除了美食之外，另一個意外成為焦點的話題，就是 AI。

席間有朋友介紹 ChatGPT 一項新的功能 —— 即時 AI 圖像生成。

起初大家都很好奇：

「真的可以這麼快生成圖片嗎？」

結果現場一試，幾秒鐘之內便完成。

我也立即親自試了一次。

我只是在 ChatGPT 輸入一句：

「A young Chinese girl friend with me」

幾秒後，一張相當真實的圖片便生成出來。

在場朋友都感到驚訝。

有人笑了，有人靠近觀看，也有人開始思考自己想生成什麼圖片。

最令我印象深刻的，不只是速度，而是它的簡單。

完全不需要專業技術，也不用學複雜軟件，只需要用自然語言描述你想要的畫面即可。

這次經歷再次提醒我，AI 正在悄悄進入我們的日常生活。

以前，要製作這類圖片需要專業設計技巧與軟件；今天，即使像我們這些長者，也能在朋友聚餐之間輕鬆體驗 AI 創作的樂趣。

學習 AI，其實並不遙遠，也不一定困難。

很多時候，學習就是從一次聚餐、一段對話、一份好奇心開始。

對我來說，這不只是一次新功能體驗。

更是一個提醒：

無論年齡多大，我們依然可以接觸新科技、學習新事物，並享受探索世界的樂趣。

而這，也許正是 AI 時代最有趣的地方。
