Today, Julie and I had lunch with a group of friends at One Chinese Cuisine. Twelve of us sat around a big table, enjoying round after round of dim sum.
At the end, the bill came to C$240—about C$20 each. Good food, good value, and even better company.
But the most valuable part of the lunch had nothing to do with the food.
During our conversation, my friend D mentioned that he had been reading my blog. He brought up a specific post—my Hillcrest Mall story—and said:
“While reading it, I felt like I was walking there, enjoying the window shopping.”
That one sentence stopped me.
Because just recently, I had been looking at my Google Analytics:
- page views
- traffic sources
- user counts
All useful. All interesting.
But none of those numbers told me this:
👉 that a reader felt immersed in the experience
This is something analytics cannot measure.
It was a powerful reminder:
Data shows you what is happening.
People tell you why it matters.
D also said he would forward my blog to his brother. That’s how real growth begins—not just clicks, but genuine connection and word of mouth.
What I Learned
As I continue building ai123.ca and Grandpa Journey, this experience clarified something important:
- Don’t rely only on numbers
Analytics is a tool, not the goal. - Write for experience, not just information
If readers can “see and feel” your story, they will remember it. - Real feedback is rare—and valuable
When someone tells you how your writing made them feel, pay attention. - AI can help you write—but connection is human
AI helps us structure, polish, and refine.
But the heart of the story still comes from real life.
Today’s lesson didn’t come from a dashboard.
It came from a lunch table.
And I will take that insight with me as I continue this journey with AI and writing.
